Canadian Christmas

So, I managed quite successfully to cram 20 people in my living room, on the floor for Chrismtas dinner. I used new recipes this year, so things turned out a little differently than expected, namely the stuffing and the pumpkin pie. The stuffing was a product of sheer imagination because I couldn't find celery to save my life (I went to ALL of the stores in town... no luck) so I used fennel instead. Also, instead of paprika, i used chili powder! Inventive? Perhaps. Tasty? You bet! I also stole a family turkey secret from the fabulous people I stayed with in Kamloops, you know who you are! The turkey was awesome! :) The pumpkin pie was not quite the same, it was missing something,.. i need to find last year's recipe!

So, all in all, it was fantastic time with friends who i now call part of my family. We talked a lot and played games, people reconnected with each other, and they also got to make some new friends! Thanks for your prayers!

Christina,
Your Christmas celebrations looks and sounds wonderful! Look how creative you are!! My family had a big breakfast with another family, and then we headed out to the Blackfoot Grazing Area, and Shane and I cross country skied a long ways, and came back to roast turkey smokies over the fire. Then we went to his family's Christmas gathering-- so it was a big day, but I honestly think it was great!
Jenny Andrews, Leslie, Angela, Andrea Kooy and I got together last night for our Christmas-- it was good to see the girls and Jenny is visiting home for a week from Guatemala. I think she was experiencing what you did when you were most recently here in Edmonton-- knowing us, but having missed out on the last 5 months-- it was a bit hard, and I was feeling a bit awkward.
The snow here is so beautiful at the moment-- all the trees frosted over and the countryside looks like we have been placed in a fairy tale.
Merry Christmas Canook abroad!

Hi honey,
You should've called me for the pumpkin pie recipe - I'd have bailed you out! The pic of the turkey looks like the pan was a bit small, but it looks yummy anyway! The stuffing sounds good, and experimenting is half the fun of cooking anyway isn't it? I'm glad it turned out despite the "different" ingredients!
Good job!

Love you
